Overview
Immersh is committed to providing an accessible educational platform for all users, including individuals with disabilities. We strive to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard and comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This statement describes the accessibility features of the Immersh platform, our commitment to continuous improvement, and how to contact us if you experience accessibility barriers.
Scope
This accessibility statement covers:
- The Immersh Platform at https://immersh.com
- The Immersh education application and all interactive features
- API documentation
- LTI integration interfaces
This statement does not cover:
- Educational content created and uploaded by instructors and users
- Third-party integrations and external services
- PDFs and documents created outside our systems
WCAG 2.1 Level AA Conformance
Immersh is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 Level AA includes 50 accessibility success criteria covering:
- Perceivable: Information is presented in ways users can perceive
- Operable: Users can navigate and interact with all functionality
- Understandable: Users can understand content and how to use the platform
- Robust: Content is compatible with assistive technologies and browsers
Accessible Features
The Immersh Platform includes the following accessibility features:
Navigation and Interaction
- Full keyboard navigation throughout the platform (no keyboard traps)
- Logical tab order and focus indicators
- Skip links to main content
- Clear and descriptive link text
- Operable buttons and interactive elements
Visual Accessibility
- WCAG AA color contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Text resizable up to 200% without loss of functionality
- Support for browser zoom up to 300%
- High-contrast viewing modes
- No information conveyed by color alone
Assistive Technology Support
- Full screen reader compatibility with ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) labels and landmarks
- Proper semantic HTML structure for document hierarchy
- Form labels properly associated with inputs
- Error messages identified and linked to form fields
- Status messages announced to screen reader users
Multimedia
- Closed captions for all video lessons
- Transcripts available for audio and video content
- Captions synchronized with video playback
- Audio descriptions for key visual content where appropriate
Learning and Cognitive Support
- Clear page structure with descriptive headings
- Consistent navigation patterns throughout the platform
- Plain language and avoidance of jargon where possible
- Extended time available for timed assessments where educationally appropriate
- Multiple ways to complete tasks and access content
Known Accessibility Limitations
While we are committed to accessibility, some limitations currently exist:
User-Generated Content
- Instructors and users may upload documents, images, and videos that do not include captions, alt text, or other accessibility features
- Educational institutions are responsible for ensuring content meets accessibility standards
Third-Party Integrations
- Third-party authentication providers (Google, Microsoft, institutional SSO) have their own accessibility features and limitations
- Third-party video hosting (Vimeo) is subject to their accessibility practices
Legacy Content
- Some educational content created before our accessibility initiatives may not meet current standards
- We are working to remediate historical content
Complex Tables
- Some data tables with merged cells or complex headers may not be fully accessible to all screen reader users
Testing and Evaluation
We evaluate the accessibility of the Immersh Platform using:
- Automated accessibility testing tools (axe, WAVE, Lighthouse)
- Manual testing with assistive technologies including:
- Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver)
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Voice control software
- Regular usability testing with users who have disabilities
- Third-party accessibility audits conducted annually
- Continuous monitoring during development (accessibility testing in CI/CD pipeline)

- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - Requires equal access to programs and services
- UK Accessibility Regulations 2018 - Applies to websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies
- European Accessibility Act (EAA) - Requires accessibility of websites and mobile applications
